Education Governor

We're looking for a Governor with experience in Education, especially in leadership/senior management and school improvement

Chailey Heritage Foundation’s (CHF) Governing Board has the delegated responsibility for the oversight and assurance of the Charity’s services.  This delegation comes from the Board of Trustees, which has overall control of the Charity, its property and funds.

CHF has an active and committed Governing Board in which Governors play an active role and are expected to become familiar with all the services. They need to be able to devote sufficient time to attending meetings and making Governor Focus Visits.

We consider integrity, commitment, strategic vision, good independent judgment, and a willingness to speak out as a critical friend to the organisation, to be amongst the essential qualities for our board members. Currently, we are particularly looking to recruit a Governor who has experience in Education especially in leadership/senior management and school improvement, who can work closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders:

  • Helping to shape a long-term ambitious vision for the school and the strategy to achieve that vision.
  • Supporting the development of the CHILD curriculum created at CHF, and having an overview of the preparation of pupils for the next stage of their education and adult life, and other areas of school improvement.
  • Agreeing/reviewing the school staffing structure to ensure it supports delivery of the strategy.
  • Asking challenging questions of the Headteacher and school leaders in order to hold them to account for standards and compliance with agreed policies.
  • Overseeing a robust safeguarding culture throughout the Foundation, and understanding extra support required to protect young people with disabilities.

Desired experience / skills

  • Leadership or senior management role in Education either in mainstream school or  MAT, or a Special School environment.
  • Ability to influence, challenge and support senior leaders & colleagues on the board.
  • Willingness to get to know the school through visits, internal training courses and time spent with Headteacher
  • Ability to evaluate relevant data and feedback given by school leaders and external regulatory bodies.

Prior experience does not need to have been gained from within the charitable sector, but a passion for seeing lives transformed through education is essential!
