ASOS brings a Christmas Catwalk to Chailey!

17 December 2021

With the festive season upon us, students at Chailey Heritage Foundation were offered a unique opportunity to find their own party style with experts from ASOS. Employees from the online fashion and cosmetics retailer chose Chailey Heritage Foundation for their “Give a day away” day, a scheme which allows their staff one day off a year to support a charity or do something for the community.

This year, ASOS executives Niall Underwood, Brand Content Manager, and Melissa Reeve, Global Head of Brand Strategy Management, decided to spend their day with the young people at Chailey Heritage. They decided to hold a “Get ready to party” session for a group of teenagers, providing everything they would need for a Christmas fashion shoot and catwalk show.

Helen Dunman, a teacher at Chailey Heritage School, said: “With the help of Niall and Melissa, our students were able to choose their own look and express their style. They experimented with cosmetics and it was incredible to see that young people who would normally find it very difficult to engage with activities, were suddenly very fascinated and were willing to experiment with various make-up products. This in itself is an incredible accomplishment.”

Everyone really enjoyed getting ready at the make up station, feeling the textures of the clothes and selecting their pieces for the fashion show. In the afternoon, there was a fabulous cat walk as the young people showed off their colourful clothes, parading in front of their friends to the music.

Summing up the day, Melissa said: “It was incredibly powerful to see the students expressing themselves through fashion. The resulting fashion show was filled with play, experimentation and most importantly fun and confidence. It was an honour to participate in the first ever Chailey Heritage party season runway show!”

A great afternoon was had by all - thank you, ASOS!
