Helen Hewitt

Helen has worked in education since completing her MA, first teaching history in secondary schools and then moving to the Local Education Authority. There she managed Special Educational Needs assessment teams, and developed new support services and pupil referral units, working closely with psychologists and special school headteachers. As Assistant Director for nine years, Helen had responsibility for all Local Authority services for young people in schools and their families and was a member of the Ministerial working group on the future role of special schools.

Before joining Chailey Heritage Foundation, Helen spent ten years as Director of Educational Services at Together Trust, a charity that provides education, care and support across the North West of England.

Helen has been a Trustee of several small charities and is currently chair of the Strategic Governing Body for two primary academies in Newhaven in Sussex which are part of the multi academy trust, STEP.

Helen has recently been re-elected to the Council of NASS (National Association of Independent Schools & Non-Maintained Special Schools) and which she chaired from 2007 to 2009 during her previous seven year term as a Council member.
