Therapeutic Riding

Chailey Heritage Foundation is a 'Centre of Excellence' for Hippotherapy, which uses the movement of the horse as physiotherapy to help build core strength. Since most of our children spend the majority of their time in a wheelchair or other postural equipment, riding provides a rare opportunity to participate in exercise out of their chair.

We can only provide this facility thanks to the generosity of regular supporters and voluntary donations. We do not receive any statutory funding for this service and must raise just over £50,000 each year to fund the service for our young people.

The benefits of therapeutic riding include:

  • working on motor, communication and social skills
  • sustained cardiovascular exercise
  • an activity outside in the fresh air
  • boosting confidence

The service is provided all year round during term-time, along with an after school Riding Club. We also offer multisensory sessions for those who cannot ride the horses.

The service has continued to be in growing demand. Your donations would help us fund this fantastic provision:

  • £55 - can buy one session
  • £440 - can give 8 children the chance to ride
  • £1,310 - can fund 3 days of riding therapy per week
