We were very pleased to welcome Stephen Lloyd MP today to meet some of the young people, who use both our residential and community services, and some senior staff. It gave us an opportunity to help raise the profile in Parliament of the challenges faced every single day by disabled young people and their families and explain to Stephen about the work we do to support the Disabled Children’s Partnership and their #giveitback campaign.
At the same time, we were able to highlight the petition set up by Jackie Hoadley, parent of Mathew and Ellie who both attend Chailey Heritage School, about the cuts to incontinence pads. This decision affects many families of children and young people with disabilities. We know of the real problems it is causing and we were very pleased to find that Stephen Lloyd is supporting this campaign and will be talking to Ministers about it.
Helen Hewitt, Chief Executive of Chailey Heritage Foundation, commented,
It's always a great pleasure to show visitors around and especially MPs of young people living in their constituency and using our services. Raising the profile of the work we do here for young people with complex disabilities and the challenges faced by their families is very important to our Charity and meeting MPs gives me the perfect opportunity to do just that.
