On Friday 5th of July 9 young people from St Martin’s and Seymour Department went to Lewes to participate in the Patina Parade (Parents and teachers in the arts). This annual event is to celebrate their transition from year 6 to year 7. We were fortunate enough to enjoy this day alongside 420 other children from 16 schools in the district!
This year’s theme was ‘traditional children stories’ and all the children’s costumes and artworks were inspired by the wide variety of children’s books. At Chailey Heritage School, young people had the opportunity to take part in an inspirational 3 day artworks and costumes designed workshop led by a local artist with our focus being the story of Hansel and Gretel. We made large installations which we paraded through the streets of Lewes contributed and responded to the music and electric atmosphere. It was such a proud moment for our young people to celebrate their moving on and being part of our beautiful local community on that amazing day!
