On Wednesday 7th November, the long-awaited PAT dog was introduced to Chailey Heritage!
Bonnie is a newly-trained PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog and her owners brought her in to meet with some of the CHF young people for the first time this week. There was a lot of excitement within the Hanbury Department about this. Although a few of us were worried that Bonnie might be ‘over patted’ (is there such a thing?) we were proved wrong as she clearly enjoyed the attention and the affection! As with any other activity at CHF there were links to the students’ learning within this; ‘trying something new, even for a short time’ and ‘to lift my head and make eye contact when communicating with someone new’ were amongst the range of Next Steps related to this activity. New and fun experiences such as these tend to prompt a lot of communication from students, whether on a 1:1 basis, in a chat group afterwards or included in their emails or on a Step-by-Step. The Heads of Departments are planning more visits from Bonnie very soon!
