Bill Shelford and Verena Hanbury retire from the Trustee Board

19 December 2018

On Monday 10 December, we said goodbye and thank you to Bill Shelford and Verena Hanbury as they retired from the Trustee Board. Between them, they have been involved with the Charity for nearly 70 years and we will miss their knowledge and wise counsel.

Bill took over as Chair of Governors from Verena in 2004 and served on that Board until 2014, when he became Chair of Trustees.

Verena has been coming to Chailey Heritage since she was a toddler when her grandmother, Grace Kimmins, was in charge. Verena officially started as a Volunteer in 1963 and joined the Governing Board in 1965, becoming Chair of Governors in 1986. During that time, she was instrumental in the Chailey Challenge Appeal, which raised over £5m to bring all the Charity’s facilities onto one site. We are very grateful that Verena has agreed to continue as President of the Charity.
