Chailey Heritage Foundation held a birthday bash on Monday 20th August to mark the 5th anniversary of Futures Life Skills Centre and the 1st anniversary of Patchwork Farm.
Opened by the Duchess of Cornwall in 2013, Futures Life Skills Centre is a unique facility for the disability community, enabling young people with very complex disabilities to attend a mixture of activity sessions to develop skills for life, find new interests and join a thriving social environment. Since then hundreds of young people have benefited from their time at the Life Skills Centre.
Patchwork Farm, opened in 2017 by the Duchess of Gloucester, is a therapeutic care farm that has been specially designed to allow young people a hands-on experience with a number of different animals. In its first year, Patchwork Farm has quickly become a very successful learning resource for the young people who access the services Chailey Heritage Foundation provide.
Amongst the guests to the birthday bash were first supporters of the facilities, local charities, service users and their families or carers, who came to celebrate these fantastic services which help enrich the lives and learning of the young people at Chailey Heritage Foundation. The party featured drop in sessions at the Futures Life Skills Centre, animal handling talks on Patchwork Farm, entertainment, music, competitions, a BBQ (with burgers kindly donated by local butcher, Clive Miller) and birthday cake for all the guests.
“The Life Skills Centre turning five years old and Patchwork Farm turning one seemed a great reason to have a party and celebrate both of our wonderful facilities,” comments Jo Butterworth, Life Skills Manager at Chailey Heritage Foundation.
“Those attending had the opportunity of baking up treats in our fully accessible kitchen, using Eyegaze technology in our multi-media suite, getting hands on and creative in our art and craft room or playing games in our gym whilst a lot of people coveted the spa and massage room!”
Chailey Heritage Foundation would like to thank Sussex Young Farmers who volunteered on the day and for everyone who made the party such a fantastic event.
