This is Holly during a recent art session. The beginning of the session is set up with her sensory pieces in front of her so she can choose what she would like to interact with. Holly has a silver piece of material as a firm favourite. She would hold the item of interest upto her ear and scrunch it.
Once Holly has settled, the activities would then change from week to week. Varying the activities helps to keep Holly engaged.
Depending on Holly’s mood, sometimes she seems to love to completely cover everything in paint, other times she enjoys the tub with all of the pots and tubes of water to splash in. She seems fascinated to watch the water pour through the sieve as well as listen to it dripping.
Other times she is happy for myself or her Support worker to demonstrate the activity and Holly will observe. On occasions this will give her the confidence to try the activity herself.
Every session explores sights, sounds, touch and scent. Holly remains engaged, focussed and just happy exploring in her art sessions.
