A couple of weeks ago Hanbury 3 and 4 took part in a workshop run by Silvia Harris, the vice chairman of Haywards Heath Horticultural Society to make poppies for the River of Poppies event.
The activity created opportunities for the young people to work on their own personal My Next Steps which may have include any of the following; choice making skills, communicating preferences, exploring new materials, listening / following instructions, joining in with a group activity all while learning / experiencing a new skill.
This event is a whole community project where they are hoping to make 10,000 poppies to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. All of the poppies made will be displayed from the Orchards to Muster Green in Haywards Heath by September.
The poppies that we made a few weeks ago were entered into a show and we won a prize for them! We were presented with a certificate and a beautiful flower pot!
