Finance Governor

Would you like to be a Governor of our Charity?

Chailey Heritage Foundation has been changing the lives of young people with disabilities since 1903.  Today, we are one of the UK’s leading centres for children and young people with complex neurodisabilities, supporting more than 200 young people across all our services.  We have a special school (including boarding facilities), as well as a wide range of residential and day services for young adults.  Over 450 staff and 60 volunteers help every day to deliver our mission that each young person should have every opportunity to fulfil their potential, no matter what the challenges.

Our Governing Board has oversight of the operations for all our services, with the Trustee Board having overall responsibility for everything the Charity does.

Following a retirement on our Governing Board, we are now looking to appoint a new Governor with financial management expertise and experience who will chair our Governors’ Finance sub-committee.  We have an experienced and effective Finance Director as well as a Clerk who will organise agendas and papers for the meetings.

We are seeking someone to join our Board who can commit the time and energy to help our Charity achieve its strategic aims.  We are particularly interested in strong team players.  This role will give you the opportunity to meet a range of skilled professionals and give back to the community, whilst ultimately knowing that your input has impacted the vulnerable young people in our care.

The Charity has a highly experienced and engaged Governing Board which meets three times a year during working hours (usually March, July and December) plus one strategic planning meeting.  The Governors’ Finance sub-committee also meets at least three times a year, just before the Board.  This sub-committee is one of the most important and therefore the meetings can be a bit longer than other sub-committees.  Although the Charity is based in East Sussex, we are fully set up for conference meetings and therefore some meetings may be held remotely online.

Our Boards benefit from people with a diverse blend of skills, perspectives, and life experiences. In appointing our new Governors, we will be considering personal profile, including individual protected characteristics, skills and experiences.

As part of our commitment to transparency, we have a formal application process for all Governor appointments. An enhanced DBS check will also be required.

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable out-of-pocket travel expenses will be reimbursed.
