Beach Day in St Martin's

As an exciting start to our new Seaside topic, the St Martin’s department has been turned into an indoor beach! We had a sensory day with seaside sounds, sand play, splashing in a paddling pool, candy floss making and a messy play activity which involved making and splattering ‘seagull poo’ (made from yoghurt). The children used all of their senses to explore all the resources on offer – some children worked on their fine motor skills as they grasped objects and explored the sand with their hands. Others used other physical skills to stand in the sand using the standing slings or splash the water by kicking their legs. It was also a great opportunity for some social interaction between the children as they sat and played together. There was lots of vocalisation and laughter going on, and children were encouraged to lead the play by initiating movements and making choices. As you can see, great fun was had by all!
