Willow’s young adults enjoy their cooking session at the bungalow, as they prepare a meal and a dessert together. This develops their understanding of meal planning, as they choose a recipe, shop for the ingredients and prepare the food together.
Shopping for groceries helps the young adults become familiar with the supermarket environment as they handle money and identify ingredients they need. In the final stage particularly, there are opportunities for switch work, developing their fine and gross motor skills whilst working on communication and being exposed to related language. They’ve already made fajitas and an aubergine pie (pictured) amongst other delicious things. There’s a real sense of team work and accomplishment around the meal table as they enjoy the tastes and smells of their hard work.
