Many of our young people at Futures engage well with the Life Skills Centre music therapy sessions and enjoy listening to orchestral music, so we leapt at the chance to go to a BBC prom at the Royal Albert Hall. 5 young people went to a performance of the BBC 10 Pieces proms which was inspiring, and not just an audiable treat but a visual one too. As well as the sheer size, beauty and bustle of the full auditorium there were also some amazing costumes and a stunning firebird puppet moved by 4 puppeteers.
The pieces themselves told a story, as we were encouraged to join an exciting orchestral adventure of 10 ear-tingling magical spells to bring the majestic Firebird back home. The spells weren’t only orchestral, there was also young people who danced, performed poetry and sung as we progressed to the final piece: Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird just as the Firebird swooped into the hall.
Before we set off back to Chailey we used an amazing Changing Places toilet at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road; with disabled parking just around the corner on Netherton Grove and 24/7 access, it was really simple to use.
